Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit :: Steven Furtick

At 31, Steven Furtick is living proof that youth is not a barrier for God. Five years ago, Furtick recruited a team of friends and planted Elevation Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Today, Elevation is one of the fastest-growing churches in America, with more than 8,000 in attendance. His new book, Sun Stand Still, inspires believers toward audacious faith, rooted in prayer and unbound by circumstances. “God revels in doing the impossible through those willing to dream big—and ask,” he says. What audacious dream has God planted in your soul? And what kind of leadership does it require? Take the plunge toward leadership marked by deeper faith and riskier audacity.

  • Key question from this session: What exactly is this kid doing on the same stage speaking at the same conference as the honorable Cory Booker and Bill [freaking] Hybels?
  • God told Jeremiah to go to everyone and speak to them, one thing I do feel like I’m an expert at is feeling dumb enough to know that God can do anything.
  • Audacious faith is the theme of my life. Believing God to do the impossible.
  • I don’t believe God has called me to survive the world but to change it.
  • 2 Kings 3:9-20 – Elisha walked around doing miracles, dripping with awesome sauce, so I want to preach a sermon about Elisha.
  • We can position ourselves, and learn, but only God can make it rain. It doesn’t matter how many men you have, or how much equipment you have, if you don’t have water for your men, only God can make it rain.
  • Only God can send favor, and mercy, and salvation, and healing.
  • I can’t expect God’s blessing on my work unless I do it God’s way.
  • The thing about a leadership event like this, is that its awesome while you’re here, and the music is playing, and the speakers are speaking, but then you gotta go home. How are we going to get from inspiration to implementation?
  • If all you have is some good ideas, that doesn’t make you a visionary, that makes you a daydreamer.
  • If the size of the vision that you have for you is not intimidating to you, there’s a chance it is insulting to God.
  • If you want to see the land filled with water, dig some ditches. By being here you’re digging ditches in preparation for how God is going to use your life.
  • Faith believes it before it sees it. It doesn’t wait around and wait for it to happen.
  • Life can beat the audacity right out of you.
  • If you will dig the ditches, God will send the rain.
  • If you will do what you can do, He will do what He can do.
