Live Up to Your Potential

One of the things I’ve learned over my past year at Park is that nothing comes easy. I know… the buzz phrase these days is “Do the work,” and I’m not trying to repeat anything that has already been said, especially because there are many others that have done a much better job at emphasizing this.

But instead I want to emphasize another aspect of this…

If you are blessed enough to be brought into a position for the work you’ve done in the past, don’t rest on your laurels.

Just because someone saw some potential in you at one time, doesn’t mean that you can stop working.

When someone sees potential in you, they might give you the opportunity to live up to that potential. You can seize that opportunity, but if you aren’t doing everything in your power to live up to that potential then you have failed.

So what now?

If you are doing everything you can to live up to your potential, then don’t stop. Keep working hard. Keep living up to your potential.

If you have failed to live up to your potential, don’t worry. It’s not too late. First, stop reading this blog post and go do some work that matters. Stop checking Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. Those are things that Seth Godin calls The Resistance.

Overcome the resistance, and get to work.

The reason I have the opportunity to do what I do is because someone saw potential in me and gave me the opportunity. I seized that opportunity, and haven’t stopped working since. Sometimes I find myself giving into the resistance. It is in those times where I have to refocus and get to work.

Have you lived up to your potential?

Are you doing everything to live up to your potential?

Do you see potential in someone else?
