Jesus is Building His Church

  • Jesus asks, “Who do you say that I am?”
  • Peter said, I think you’re the Christ, the Son, the Living God.
  • Jesus says, on this rock, I’m going to build my church and death isn’t going to stop it.
  • It’s so unfortunate that the term ‘church’ showed up in our english new testament. The term that Jesus used, was not the word that we use today.
  • Jesus didn’t predict a place. Jesus predicted a people, and a movement.
  • This church is a people. It’s a growing group of people.
  • If we asked the question, “What’s the one thing we have in common?” The only thing we have in common is exactly what Jesus predicted, “That I am the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and I’m going to build an idea around that single idea, and nothing is going to stop it.”
  • I wish I could show up in the house of anyone who goes to church, and tell them to think about what they’re about to do.
  • When you go to church you are about assemble with a group of people that is 2,000 years old.
  • “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore I want you to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you, and I will be with you always as you make disciples to the very end of the age.”
  • Why are we here?
  • How did the church survive?
  • Why are we gathered?
  • Simple: Because when Jesus made his promise, he didn’t blink or flinch.
  • The Holy Land was the armpit of the Roman Empire.
  • Jesus made a promise, and he has been at the epicenter of the local church for 2,000 years.
  • I think we have to go back to the book of Acts and ask “How did the church get started?”
  • The message of the book of Acts: This is not about what we believe. This is about what we saw with our very eyes.
  • Book of Acts: You killed the author life, but God raised him from the dead, and we are witnesses of this.
  • The central teaching of the church was not “we believe something is true.” It was “we believe something happened.”
  • God has done something in our midst. He raised a man from the dead.
  • One day Saul is on his way to Damascus, and Jesus knocks him onto his butt. And Saul becomes the champion of the church.
  • When Jesus says he is going to build his church, he means it. This is why he used Saul.
  • Every once and a while our Savior interrupts plans because he is committed to building his church.
  • Nothing is going to stand in the way of Jesus building his church.
  • If a guy can predict his death and his resurrection and then pulls it off, I am with him, no matter what.
  • Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord because you know that Jesus died and raised from the dead.
  • When Jesus said, “I’m going to build my church,” he meant it.
