Monday Wake Up

Last week was a bit crazy, but here are some of the highlights…

  • Turns out September 18 is National Cheeseburger Day. I and a couple friends were able to enjoy a great burger at the Urban Burger Bar Chicago. If you ever want a good burger you should check it out. I didn’t even get a cheeseburger technically but it was amazing!
  • My wife surprised me with a Camelbak water bottle. I think they’re the Apple of water bottles. They pay attention to minor design details. I never thought a water bottle could be designed so well. Anyways, I think my water intake has increased 5 fold since using the Camelbak. You should check one out.
  • Also turns out that “Americans spend more time in their Facebook newsfeed than on ABC, MSNBC, Yahoo! News, CNN, The New York Times & Huffington Post, COMBINED!” What does this mean for us as Christians and how the church interacts in this space?
  • If you’ve been following my Twitter stream or my blog over the past couple days then you’ve seen the barrage of #Story2012 tweets. It was a great 2 days as we heard from some of the amazing creatives in the church today. You can checkout notes from every speaker here on my blog, but here are some of my favorite quotes…

If you want to find a voice, find a pen. – Anne Lemott

I can’t allow myself to measure my art by what it may or may not achieve. – Isaac Rentz

You don’t have to have hope to create art. But you have to have hope to create beauty. – Erwin McManus

Everyone wants to make a difference in the world, but no one wants to be different. – Bob Goff

When film is done right it makes your feel something. – Hillsong Creative Team

It isn’t about utility or function. You need place where you can just do what you do because you love it. Don’t just do it because you’re hired to do something. – Makoto Fujimura

Do I have an audience of one? Or an audience of many? – Kyle Idleman

He who has God + many things has nothing more than he who has God alone. – C.S. Lewis – Phil Vischer

If you want to see more quotes or pictures from Story, checkout the #Story2012 hashtag on Twitter.

Also checkout all 698 photos using the #Story2012 hashtag on Instagram. I think the condor girl won the contest for the most pictures taken of her. :)

I’ll be writing more about what I’m learning as a result of Story, but it was an amazing experience to say the last. And I can’t wait for Story next year, as they announced that they’re going to be in different locations throughout the city of Chicago including the House of Blues, and a cathedral.

  • Ever since I setup a hashtag on Twitter and Instagram for mine and Amy’s wedding, I’ve gotten asked to do the same for a friend’s wedding this weekend. It should be alot of fun, but we’ll see how it goes. :)
  •  I’ve been unpacking many thoughts over the weekend with my wife about things I heard at Story, so look for those thoughts to come out here on my blog. I want to foster conversation and this is the place to do it.

How was your weekend?

Were you at Story?

If so, what was your most memorable moment, quote, etc.?
